We are recruiting a Monitoring Officer (full time, up to £18,000) and an Administration Assistant (part time, up to £7,100) to monitor European-funded projects on Bransholme. We are looking for a Monitoring Officer to monitor and develop European-funded projects. This person should have experience of project monitoring, European funding and community work. We also require a part-time Administration Assistant to support the Officer. This person will be computer-literate (incl database), be used to working in an office environment, and be familiar with maintaining a variety of information.

We are going to be involved with a project to clear the fly-tipping from Old Main Drain. This will involve Urban, Hull DOC, Cllrs Burton and Harrison and local groups of young people. We will try to highlight the correct methods of disposing of rubbish and give people a sense of pride in their local area.

Two students from the University of Hull worked with us looking into the barriers to household recycling on Bransholme and researching the drainage network for potential for wildlife corridors.

Unfortunately Hull Sports Development have informed us that they will not support our NOF for PE & Sport bid for RWTW as they do not believe that the schools usage will fit the NOF funding requirements. We will now have to look elsewhere for funding.

Contact has been made with the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) and Sam has met with the Regional Chair and the Regional Instructor regarding Ride With The Wind. They are very supportive of the project and will be part of the Development Team.

We have taken the RWTW project display around various locations in Bransholme to inform the wider public about the ideas being generated.
|

We are to be partners with Hull Local Labour Initiative in a bid for European funding through the LSC. This will enable the RWTW project to be one large training programme in construction techniques!

A school support project will be using two of the allotment plots working with young people from Winifred Holtby School.

Sam has submitted a bid to the Community Fund to employ a Community Development Worker.

BGE have started to hold coffee mornings. These will be held monthly at various venues in the estate. They are informal meetings where people can have a chat and find out what is going on in the green scene.

We have submitted two bids to a local NOF fund called Transforming Your Space. One for the allotments project for £100,000 and one for Ride With The Wind for £300,000. Fingers crossed!

BGE were involved with a dissemination event held in the Guildhall in order to bring people together and inform them about the work Go MAD have been doing on Bransholme.

Contact has been made with the Northern Race College at Doncaster. They are more than willing to work with us regarding the equestrian centre. This will be a route to further education and a career in the racing industry for local young people.

Sam entered a competition in the form of a Cats Pyjamas event in Liverpool. Ten social enterprises had to present a business idea to a panel of experts with the winner being awarded £2000 towards the business. Sam presented the idea for the equestrian and alternative technology centre - now with a working title of Ride With The Wind - and came joint runner up!

We have secured £400,800 NOF3 PE & Sport money at Stage 1 for the development of an equestrian centre and country park. The equestrian centre will satisfy a local need for affordable riding and stabling facilities as well as being a facility for local schools to deliver several areas of the curriculum in one visit. Buildings will be constructed in the most sustainable manner possible and make maximum use of alternative technologies. The facility will link into the country park which will be developed on land around the existing community fishing lake.

The Community Allotments Project is underway with the first plots being dug over and potatoes being planted.

Bransholme BESST (Business & Environmental Sustainability Strategy Team) has been formed in order to drive forward the development of a sustainable business centre. Sam Linton is currently chairing.

Changes in the landfill tax mean that our bid for the cardboard recycling project has been stopped and we must look for other funding avenues.

The North Carr Area Committee have awarded us over £15,000 in order to be a third party funder for the cardboard recycling scheme.

Npower have allocated us enough energy efficient light bulbs for 1,400 low-income households on Bransholme. These are being distributed through the Garths Job Shop, at ward forums and through the family resource centre.

We have put in a bid to the landfill tax for a scheme that will recycle cardboard and turn it into compost!

We have also applied for NOF3 PE & Sport money through Hull Sports Development (Hull City Council) to develop an equestrian centre and country park.

BGE are involved in the formation of Heywoods (Hull & East Yorkshire Woodlands) in order to develop woodlands extending from within the city to form a canopy around the edges of Hull and into the East Riding.
